Behind The Makeup

Haunted Houses used to be low-budget using cheap latex masks or black hooded robes.  These haunted houses were put together by volunteers or members of a civic group looking to raise some funds for a charity cause.  Kersey Valley Spooky Woods started out in 1985 with a dare of teenagers to explore the farmhouse that is still in use today as part of the show.   Back in the 80s advertising was a simple hand drawn 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper with bats and words like "We Dare You", which seems light years away from today's marketing budgets and digital targeting concepts.  Kersey Valley Spooky Woods Haunted Attraction can be easily found now by simply speaking into your phone and saying "haunted houses near me" and you will get a list of haunted houses you are physically near.

Gone are the days of long waiting lines to purchase tickets to haunted houses.  The technology innovations have provided any size business to utilize a virtual queue line system and online ticketing solutions.  These technologies are available to everyone not just Universal Horror Nights or other large theme parks.  With the invention of social media demographics of the users of such platforms are used to target the most likely to want to attend haunted houses, haunted trails, haunted hayrides, or people that showed an interest in viewing a scary movie.  Radio has changed along with TV where anyone can listen to or watch want they want anytime they desire.  These mediums can also be targeted by demographic metrics or seek you out by location and serve up ads that target your behavior.  Ads can follow you around the internet, so when you search for something you might start seeing ads for these types of items or services you searched for.

Kersey Valley Spooky Woods has built a massive following and most of the decades of building that following has been the most trusted, and that is word of mouth.  Long before the internet, social media, and tracking cookies word of mouth was the best marketing method.  Today we still thrive to give the best-haunted house experience, but also layered on top of that is the use of all the technology we can tap into to reach our potential customers.  One of the ways to bypass all noise on the internet, TV, or radio is outdoor advertising.  Kersey Valley Spooky Woods is known for incredible artists that create the sets, costumes, and makeup effects in our haunted houses.  Each year we pick an actor to be represented in our marketing efforts for coupons, posters, internet ads, and the massive billboards along the highways in our market.

For 2022 we choose Mary Creech that not only loves to dress up for our haunted house marketing videos and photos but also works as part of the zip line team and works in the donut shop during Maize Adventure and Kersey Valley Spooky Woods haunted attraction.  Next time you visit say hi to Mary and grab you a bag of Apple Cider Cinnamon mini donuts.
